Mission Statement

The inaugural Canada International Screenwriters Summit and Competition (CISS) is a conference about the art of screenwriting, with three days of lectures, workshops, screenings, mock pitching, and an awards ceremony. It’s our goal to cultivate the craft of screenwriting, to protect and prepare screenwriters for the next level of development, and to “CISS your passion into reality”…and what better way to do that than a friendly competition?

CISS is taking place in August 2017 in Calgary, Alberta – a beautiful city set in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Canada. We want our guests to see the kind of world-class architecture and entertainment that the city has to offer, and our chosen venue in the downtown core will highlight just those qualities.

A screenplay is the soul of a film, and the original legal document for the product in the business. A billion-dollar industry surrounds the art of the story, and audiences are craving content more than ever; it’s our mission to empower and inform the creators on how to take their material and make it into a marketable product, by helping to promote and cultivate the film scene in Calgary, Canada, and the world. Academics, professionals, hobbyists, and dreamers from all over the world are expected to attend the Summit.
